WHERE WE HAVE BEEN

Twenty-one people began meeting in a home, with a vision for a new church that would be called "Redemption Christian Center" but after many years was changed to "Redemption Church International". Pastors Ed and Nora King founded the church in November 1978.

Andrew JohnsonPastor Ed King had been at Melodyland School of Theology in California. Through a series of miraculous events, he heard the Lord's call to return to Knoxville, his home, and begin a church. With no money, no people, and no building, Pastors Ed and Nora took a step of faith with much prayer.

God honored their faith and in two weeks they had outgrown the living room where they began. During the next three years, growth was so rapid that soon they had moved into meeting rooms in two different hotels, the Andrew Johnson and Best Western, a 7-Eleven convenience store, and a former Methodist Church. Only one week Seven Elevenbefore the lease was up at the Methodist church, the present building became available. During the last service there, the new location on Pleasant Ridge Road was announced. That was over 25 years ago!

The "new" building originally housed offices and a warehouse for a local department store. Through the years a radical transformation has Methodist Churchtaken place. The original warehouse area, that had once been our sanctuary, is now an educational area, while our staff offices are located in the lower portion of the original building. We have also added on a gymnasium and our Teen Center, as well as the new sanctuary facility. With all of the expansions we have had to purchase surrounding property to provide additional parking.

As you can see we have grown steadily over the years and now you are becoming a part of our history as we take Knoxville for Jesus and reach the world with the Good News of the Gospel.
